End of book post #1

Ok so I just finished reading the book Boot Camp by Todd Strasser. This book is a survival/ fiction novel set in upstate New York at a "disiplinary correction facility" known as Lake Harmony. The main characters in this novel are Garret, Sara, Pauly, and Joe. In this story the conflicts are blatently obvious, Garret is not supposed to be there, Joe wants nothing more than to make garret's life in Lake Harmony hell, and pauly and sara will not survive another 6 months in this facillity. The themes preasent in this novel are basically , survival of the fittest, if you are a weak person, or you are  rebellious/ stubborn then you will not go very far at all in this facility. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who does not like reading for the simple reason that this book will completely change your views on reading, i got this book because it had a neat looking cover and then i found that i couldnt put it down. i read this entire book (230 pages) in one day, I enjoyed it that much. This book made me feel very angry towards the antagonists in the book, like it made me want to kill somebody because of the way the main characters were being treated. Over all I would give this book 5 stars because of how well it was written.

Critical questions

#1) another time and place for this story would be in the florida keys, on a secluded island. the time change isnt really available because this book takes place all year around. The characters wear flip-flops. instaid of living in a stone building they all live in bamboo huts. As for the work and behavioral corecctions, it is a little more relaxed but still just as intense.

#2) One character i would relate to myself is Garret. I can relate to garret because he is a rebellious teen whose parents dont know how to deal with. His main offense with his parents is that he is having an affair with his former teacher. Now, granted, i havent had an affair with any of my former teachers, my mother still has trouble handleing me, she doesnt really know what to do about me because of my rebellious attitude. Garret also doesnt take orders very well which is a big thing with me too. i dont take orders well at all... i will gladly do something if i am asked but i will also refuse to do something if i am ordered to. Garret alsois very good at staying out of sight, iam good at that too... when i want to i can become practicly invisible, and other times i can make sure people notice me.

English 11 First Blog

hey whats up, this is devon herman with my first blog in Hawkins-Newman english 11. I am currently reading The Rules Of Survival by Nancy Werlin. This book highlights the childhood of Matt, Callie, and Emmie who live with a brutally mean mother who loves playing "games" and having "fun" with her kids, the three kids who are so afraid of their mom say that they are having fun and are enjoying themselves so that their mom doesnt get pissed. I started reading this book the first day of the second semester and fell in love with it, while i dont read it outside of school, i enjoy reading this book during school as often as i can.
